Unbalanced sound in my external speakers

I noticed when listening to music from the seventies that one channel sometimes sounded lower than the other.
I run Mavericks with external speakers, Soundsticks.
In System Pref/sound there is no balance slider. BUT if you open Applications/utilities/Midi (Program/verktygsprogram/Ljud-/Midi inställningar.
i changed the settings to 44100 Hz 2 channel 24bits  and suddenly!!!! It sounds magic!
